iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Version 1.1 of The Whisky App just came out today. Aside from the bug fixes included in this version, I have also optimized the app for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

While version 1.0 would run on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus it looked blurred on these new gorgious screens. You may remember the black bars in the top and the bottom of the screen showing in many apps when going from iPhone 4/4s to iPhone 5/5c/5s. In iOS 8, Apple handles the new screen sizes a bit different. Instead of putting black bars around the screen, Apple upscales the apps to fit the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens. That is why the apps look blurred. Here is an example:

As you can see, the version that is optimized for iPhone 6 (the bottom one) appears more crisp and here it is possible to fit one more whisky on to the screen. On the iPhone 6 Plus, the difference is even bigger:

Not only is it possible to fit almost two more bottles on to the screen – the title of the bottle also appear in full for most of the bottles.

Version 1.2 of The Whisky App will focus on the optimization for the iPad. Here the challange is a bit different. It’s not just a larger screen. It’s not an enlarged iPhone so the user interface should not be treated the same way. Instead it should take advantage of the form factor of the iPad. It is not just a matter of putting more information on the screen but also to make it easier for the users to find the information he or she is looking for. Here is a screenshot of what I am working on to show you what I mean:

I aim for a November release of version 1.2 of The Whisky app.
